Pupils at Montsaye Community College in Rothwell were celebrating the news of their GCSE results.

Katie Mackenzie, 16, achieved three As, five Bs and four Cs.

Her results included As in English, citizenship and history.

She said: "I'm really pleased and feel really happy.

"I didn't think I was going to get into sixth form but I managed to get the grades that I needed."

Katie plans to study sociology, English literature and sports studies.

Her friend Kirsty Austin, 16, achieved a combination of Bs and Cs.

She said: "I studied subjects including dance, English and child development.

"All of my friends have been really nervous opening our results but we've happy it's all over now."

She plans to return to the sixth form to study biology, psychology, health and social studies and sport studies.

Montsaye Headteacher Sue Fennell said: "We have some really good results again.

"The students have worked really hard and we're really proud of them.

"Our results are about the same as last year and the pupils and teachers have all worked really hard."
