At Montagu School in Kettering 16 year old Sam Thirkettle was celebrating after achieving nine A* to A grades.

He got A* grades in English, applied business, maths and physical education and A grades in English literature, applied business, science, French and German.

He also was awarded a C grade in religious education.

Sam said: "I'm over the moon at the results.

"I was kind of expecting one or two A* results but not four.

"I'm really happy at all of my results and worked really hard for them.

Headteacher Isobel Ashmead said: "We have seen a huge rise in our results this year.

"We had 45 per cent of our pupils achieved five A* to C results.

"We're delighted that we have done even better than our targets and hope we will improve next year.

"The pupils and the teachers have all worked very hard."
